Themes of questions

Contest categories

1. Is it allowed to work in two categories?

You are allowed to submit separate entries for two different bands.

2. What happens if I forgot to mention Low Power in my summary list?

You will be put into "High Power" category by default.

3. An operator forgot to indicate "Low Power" category, but mentioned, he was using transceiver, say FT-1000MP?

That does not prove what power was used. An operator must indicate "Low Power" on summary list.

4. An operator claimed for single band category, but some QSO's have been made on other bands.

Put all the contacts you have made into you log. State the category in your summary sheet. The computer of Contest Committee will find out the score in claimed category.

Club categories for foriegn stations

5. How can you join club competition?

Members of the same club should indicate the name of the club on the summary sheet. The number of team participants are mot restricted. There is no need to send the list of all participating club members.

6. Do scores of the members who submits check log add to the club points?

Club members sending "check logs" do not get any points, therefore their club does not get points as well.

7. If I am a member of two clubs and I indicate both clubs in my summary, will both clubs get my points added to their total score?

No, it is not allowed.

Usual questions

8. Is it possible to use cluster in the contest?

Use of the dx cluster is permitted for all the categories.

9. Is it possible to use "self-spotting"?

"Self spotting" is not allowed as it is a rule of international contests. It is a question of amateur ethics.

10. Is it allowed to set up schedules before the contest?

To set up schedules before contest is not allowed, like in most international contests.

11. An operator uses computer to transmit info and keep log. In case his correspondent does not get his number correctly, both operators get no points, why?

A QSO is valid when both sides of the QSO have copied calls and contest exchange correctly. Both sides are responsible. Each side should transmit with appropriate speed, repeat data on request, send confirmation, Computer does not prevent some mistakes. Should call sign or number be received incorrectly the QSO gives no points, but no penalties applied.

Single Operator categoreis

12. Is it possible to use "single operator with two receivers"? (SO2R)

Contest does not have separate "SO2R" category therefore it is allowed to use any number of transceivers, but only one signal at any given time.

13. How often operator in SO category may change the band or mode?

There is no limit but QSO with the same station on the same band but different mode is allowed after 10 minutes only.

Multi Operator - Single Transmitter categoreis

14. Are there restrictions on band or mode changes for multi operators station?

You have to stay on the band at least 10 minutes after the first QSO has been made on that band. A QSO with the same station on the same band but different mode is only allowed after 10 minutes. At any moment a station must radiate only one signal! (Exemption - new multiplier on the mult band).

15. What are the rules to take a multiplier on another band?

You are allowed to take a multiplier on another band, as soon as you have made the contact on that band it becomes your mult band and you cannot change it for at least 10 minutes (similar to CQWW rules).

16. Is it allowed to give CQ call on another band ( in order to get new multipliers)?

To give "CQ test" on two bands is not allowed, but you may give directional calls: e.g. CQ VK . You cannot answer non -multiplier stations, as it would be two bands operation.

17. What shall you do if you have made a QSO with non-multiplier station by mistake ?

You must show this QSO in the log. If it turned out to be "a slip", the QSO is valid, and you will get points, but if the violation persists you will get no points for these contacts but no penalty either. Your correspondents will get their points for these QSO's.

Russian oblasts abbreviations

18. A correspondent gives non-standard oblast ID. What should I put in the log: received ID or standard ID taken from official table?

Either. If there were no other mistakes the points for such a QSO will be awarded.

19. Is it necessary to check received "oblast" IDs?

It would be useful in order to avoid mistakes e.g. "SM" instead "HM"; if you use special computer program, many mistakes of that kind can be avoided. If Russian station is sending wrong "oblast" ID you have two options - put down what he sends or put down the correct ID. In both cases you will be awarded points for this contact.

LOGs

20. Is it allowed to send logs on Cabrillo, Writelog etc.?

Log files are accepted in ASCII formats, including files prepared in any text editor.

21 If I use computer logging should I send print out of my log?

Sponsors do encourage participants to send logs by email or on floppy disc.

22. Is it allowed to send summary information and log in the same file?

Yes, you can. We recommend to put summary in the beginning of the file.

23. I have done my logging on paper, shall I transform it into computer log?

Contest sponsors encourage participants to submit logs in electronic forms (email, floppy disk). You can use the computer program on our web-site, or use any text editor and submit ASCII file.

24. Should I submit my log in chronological order or band by band?

Either will do.

25. Shall I put and count points and multipliers in the log?

It is not necessary, log checking - program will do it for you.

26. Do I have to mark duplicate QSO's in my log?

No you do not have to. Every QSO, even duplicate, should be put in the log. Duplicate QSO's will be marked by check - log program. Duplicate QSO's will give zero points, no penalty points applied, Moreover, if the first QSO is invalid (e.g. the number is wrong), the second QSO will give you necessary points.

27. What shall I do if I missed some serial numbers or used some of them twice?

You should include every QSO in your log with the numbers you have sent. This type of mistake does not affect the score.

28. What shall I do if after the contest I noticed that my computer clock turned out to be e.g. 4 minutes fast (or slow)?

You have to show this time shift in your summary sheet. If you will not, you may lose points.

Results of the contest

30. Why some of the participants of "Russian DX Contest - 2000" have not got booklets with the results?

The main reason is the absence of the address in the summary sheet of the participant: E-mail address is fine but if you want to receive the booklet your post address is needed on the summary sheet.

31. How can I get my UBN file (list of mistakes)?

If you have E-mail, please send request to rz1awo@sp.ru.
